Generative AI, and the cloud beneath it
I led the AWS Summit Paris 2024 keynote, the year generative AI took over the stage. Its line was that AI is the visible tip of the iceberg, and the cloud is what lies beneath.
Julien Groues and Mai-Lan Tomsen Bukovec were joined by three of the people building the models: Arthur Mensch of Mistral AI, Thomas Wolf of Hugging Face, and Tom Brown of Anthropic. Air Liquide and TF1 showed it at work, and AWS brought Amazon Bedrock to its Paris Region, with Mistral Large on board.

Julien Groues and Mai-Lan Tomsen Bukovec, AWS Vice President of Technology, shared the stage with a long line of French customers, from Air Liquide and EDF to TF1, which fended off more than 30 million illegitimate requests during the World Cup final. AWS also announced a generative AI accelerator for start-ups.

Stephan Hadinger and Sébastien Stormacq made the technology case, and four French companies told their own stories: TheFork on weathering the crises of the previous two years, CMA CGM on its net-zero goal, Airbus on serverless and IoT, and Stellantis on analysing 6.6 million electric-vehicle journeys to work out what its ideal electric car should be.
